The Campus Drive Bike Path project will connect the Paint Branch Trail and the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail via Campus Drive in College Park. This project will result in a fully walkable and bikeable area directly connected at safe crossings of major roads – one at the pedestrian underpass of Baltimore Avenue at Lakeland Road, the other at the pedestrian call signal of Campus Drive and Baltimore Avenue.

The project will ease access multi-modal commuters of College Park’s growing residential population and commuters of the University of Maryland, the Discovery District, and hospitality businesses. The project will directly link the Paint Branch Trail to the Trolley Trail, encouraging recreational use of the Anacostia Tributary Trail System to regional visitors.

Project Area & Conceptual Design

The College Park Trail Connection improvement project area is adjacent to Paint Branch (creek), wooded, undeveloped. This project was conceptually designed by The Neighborhood Design Center (NDC), a local nonprofit organization in 2019. More recently, The University of Maryland has begun site planning and design efforts to align NDC’s conceptual plans with site-specific environmental conditions. This work is ongoing and will lead to a refined and update design that can be successfully implemented in the coming years.
