The City-University Partnership hosted a presentation and tour for University of Maryland students and parents during Family Weekend this October.
Executive Director, Eric Olson, led the event, informing students and parents about the exciting developments in progress, both at the city and university level. “College Park is no longer just a town with a busy road running through it,” said a parent of a university student.
The tour of Baltimore Avenue highlighted some of the major upcoming developments, such as The Hotel at the University of Maryland and ArtHouse+Milkboy, a soon to be performing arts venue. A freshman on the tour who currently lives in a North Campus dormitory said he “can’t wait to live closer to Route 1” to have better access to all the new restaurants and shops.
Some parents who attended were UMD alumni. The radical changes that have occurred in this generation of university students convey the new age of cooperation between the city and the university. “Very exciting stuff happening here! Makes me want to be a student here,” said a parent of a current UMD student.
