Announcement of New College Park Restaurant and Retail
On Monday, March 27, 2017, business owners who will be opening new retail and restaurants announced the latest openings on the horizon in downtown College Park, set for summer 2017. The two new businesses, Junction Vintage and The Halal Guys will move to 7207 Baltimore Avenue.
Junction Vintage is a clothing and furniture store, representing styles from the 1930s to the 1990s. It offers unique, quality and affordable styles. Shannan Fales, owner of Junction Vintage is a local resident and sees College Park, with all of the energy and redevelopment happening, sees it as the best place for unique, local businesses.
College Park will be the first home for The Halal Guys in the state of Maryland. They are pioneers of American Halal Food with flawlessly cooked, premium quality Halal meats (and falafel) that are seasoned to perfection and a melting pot of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors. New Yorkers and tourists alike have stood in the city’s longest food cart line (sometimes for hours) for their food. The Halal Guys is the #1 Most Yelped business in all of NYC and in the Top 3 Most Yelped businesses in the entire United States. They are now expanding to College Park and other university communities, and to major cities in the U.S. and internationally.
The event also featured an update on the D3 Coffee and Ale House, which will open late 2017 and feature locally-sourced food and craft beer, fine wine and quality coffee – all in a space that will include music and the arts, and that will serve both the on- and off-campus communities.
Attendees of the announcement included Tony and Michelle Akaras, D3 Coffee and Ale House, Shannan Fales, Owner, Junction Vintage, Rabi Ullah, The Halal Guys, Senator Jim Rosapepe, Chair, College Park City-University Partnership, Carlo Colella, VP for Administration and Finance UMD, Vice Chair, CP City-University Partnership, and Patrick Wojahn, Mayor, City of College Park.
