Located on 9827 Rhode Island Avenue, Proteus Bicycles is near the University of Maryland and in the Hollywood Neighborhood.  Proteus is a full-service bike shop, offering several different types of bikes, equipment, clothing, and other accessories. They also offer high quality and full-service repairs among other services.

While they have had to adapt and make operational changes due to the pandemic, Proteus has recently opened its first in-store coffee shop. Some of the menu items include coffee, espresso drinks, cold brew, teas and lattes as well as delicious baked goods.  They also have whole beans for sale, locally and sustainably sourced from Open Seas Coffees. The baked goods available for purchase are also local sourced from both Shortcake Bakery and Hawthorne Fine Breakfast Pastry. The Proteus Coffee Shop only currently offers curbside pick-up for coffee due to the pandemic, however they have plans to create a seating area inside. Right now, there are tables outside where you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or a pastry before or after a bike ride on the many trails in College Park or waiting for your bike to be serviced.

Proteus Bicycles has continued to operate during the COVID-19 and still offers in-person shopping. They do as much as possible to keep employees and customers safe by limiting the amount of people in the store. Because of the limited capacity, you can either wait outside and also have the option of making an appointment ahead of time. Proteus is opened Tuesday through Sunday, and you can view their operating hours on their website.

While this business has been an institution in College Park for over 40 years, Proteus in College Park will be celebrating their two-year anniversary for their new location on December 15. So, come out to celebrate Proteus Bicycles!
