It can be hard to find healthy food options that are both fulfilling and affordable. This issue is what inspired the Sweetgreen chain to bring healthy and environmentally friendly foods to different communities. Founded in 2007 in Washington DC by a group of local college kids, the restaurant’s farm-to-table mentality has allowed them to open up numerous locations in the DMV area as well as chains in five other states. Sick of not being able to find an affordable, healthy, and organic fast food restaurant near campus, three Georgetown University students decided to open a place of their own.

Located on Baltimore Avenue in College Park, Sweetgreen is under the University View, making it close to many students in the area and a short walk from campus. Sweetgreen gives many students the opportunity to eat organic and healthy meals without worrying about price. Each morning, fresh veggies, fruits, and grains are delivered to the restaurants, and food is prepared fresh in the kitchen. They menu often changes depending on the season, but their current fall menu includes seasonal favorites such as Chicken + Brussels, Curry Cauliflower, Kale Gingerade and more. Although the restaurant focuses mainly on salads, the menu also includes various warm bowls such as the Chicken Pesto Parm, or Fish Taco. Sweetgreen also carries various vegetarian and vegan dishes, such as the Spicy Thai Salad and Shroomami, which helps cater to all customers. The accepting environment and delicious food is a large part of what makes Sweetgreen such a special part of our community.
