D.P. Dough is a casual, late-night calzone spot – ideal for a savory craving or reward after a busy week. Stop by their Terrapin Row location daily from 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
Calzones commonly referred to as ‘turnovers’, are a Neopolitan, sandwich-sized dish favored for their portability and classic Italian flavors. Traditionally, calzones are made of salted bread dough and are stuffed with a variety of classic Italian ingredients, such as: salami, ham, mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, pecorino, and sauteed vegetables. Ingredients are folded into a crescent-shaped pocket, then braided closed. The bread pocket is then basted with an egg wash and may be baked or fried.
Though calzones are popular among people of all ages, mother-son duo Penny and Dan Haley recognized the dishes’ particular appeal to college students. As a result, the pair opened the eponymous D.P. Dough in 1987 near the University of Massachusetts. Over the next two decades, the duo opened more than 20 locations nationwide, including its newest location at 4200 Hartwick Road.
D.P. Dough offers both traditional and adventurous ‘zone’ options such as the Chicken ParmaZone with Breaded Chicken, Mozzarella, Parmesan, and Marinara. For the more daring eaters, the Falling Rock Zone with Bacon, Tots, Cheddar, Mozzarella, and a Side of Sour Cream should hit the spot. There are also other snack options to satisfy any hungry customer such as DP Dunkers, traditional wings, cheesy bacon tots, cinnamon stix, and more!
Just a short walk away from downtown College Park, D.P. Dough College Park is open daily from 4:00 P.M. – 3:00 A.M.
