Across from University View on Baltimore Avenue resides one delicious gem in College Park. Famous for their fresh hot papusas, La Papuseria Familiar is known throughout the community for their authentic El Salvadoran cuisine. Behind the restaurant’s success lies four sisters, who have been serving up delicious food and drinks since 2006.
As you walk into the papuseria, one of the four sisters works at the front counter waiting to take your order, while the other three can be seen in the kitchen, cooking up various Latin American dishes. Mariza, Raquel, Melly and Elsy Hernandez consider the eatery as an homage to their mother who unexpectedly passed away a few months before the restaurant opened. Their mother owned her own eatery back in El Salvador, where she taught her daughters the secrets to Salvadoran cooking. The Hernandez’s grew up cooking homemade meals and looked up to their mother as both their mentor and inspiration.
La Papuseria Familiar’s menu has popular traditional Salvadoran options such as the plato tico and sopa de res as well as a wide variety of additional dishes from fried plantains to burritos. They are known for their comfort food and affordable prices.
Featured in 2013 Going Out Guide of the Washington Post, this long-time staple of College Park has continued to see much success. Customers rave at the restaurant’s attention to detail, ensuring that every plate of food served has the perfect bite. The friendly ambiance and delicious food makes La Papuseria Familiar a great option for residents, students and visitors to try during their next outing.
